Kitchen Sink Faucet Buyer’s Guide

Below we highlight a few of the considerations you might want to take when researching kitchen faucets. We looked into all of these things when compiling our own data and creating this article.

[su_accordion class=””]

[su_spoiler title=”Design” open=”yes” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Kitchen faucets come in a variety of sizes and designs. For the purposes of our kitchen faucet reviews list, we decided to narrow our search strictly to arched faucets with pull-down spray heads. These tended to be the best reviewed and offer the most in terms of both design and technological advances.

Within the scope of arched, pull-down kitchen faucets, there is still a range in design from more traditional to more contemporary to ultramodern, industrial. There are also quite a few faucets that have a more transitional design, allowing it to meld with any of the above mentioned styles. Our top ten kitchen faucets list represents the full range of design aesthetics, such that we’re confident you will find one within our list that meets your personal style.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Dimensions” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

In our Comparison Chart, we include the dimensions of each faucet. Perhaps the most notable number will be the height, as that tall arch tends to be the biggest stylistic element of the faucet. Be sure to keep in mind the width and depth as well, to make sure that the faucet will fit in your sink/counter space.

Other dimensions to pay attention to and compare with your own counter and sink are the spout reach, the minimum clearance to backsplash (usually about 1 to 3 inches), the escutcheon size (more on escutcheons below in the “Installation” section), the hole size, and the water supply connection size.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Material & Finish” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Most high-end kitchen faucets are made of brass or metal (stainless steel). These seem to be the gold standards for kitchen faucets, each with their respective natural benefits as far as look and durability are concerned. To keep prices lower, composite is a good option and can be found in our favorite budget sink, the Purelux Tulip Single Handle Contemporary Design.

Many kitchen sinks are also available in various finish colors, including stainless steel, chrome, bronze, and matte black. Things to look for in a good finish are those that are tarnish, rust, and corrosion resistant. Some, as is the case with the Moen 7594ESRS Arbor With Motionsense even has “spot resist” technology that resists against fingerprints and water spots.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Construction” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Learning a little about kitchen faucet construction can help you make the best choice for your home. You’ll want to consider outward construction (handles, accessories, etc.), as well as inner construction (the way the faucet mechanically functions).

For outward construction, you’ll want to choose between centerset, wideset, and single-handle faucets. These factors determine if you have two handles close or far from the faucet, or a single handle faucet.

You also might want to consider an integrated kitchen faucet. Integrated faucets have built-in water sprayers that are either integrated into the main spout or are a separate side spray. They’re often referred to as pull-out or pull-down faucets.

For inward construction, the two most popular types of kitchen faucets are cartridge and ceramic disk. The cartridge is a small moving piece that lets a single-handle faucet control both the temperature and amount of water flowing through the faucet.  Ceramic disk valves involve two disks, one that is fixed and one that moves. Cartridge and ceramic disks are the preferred choice since they last longer, are leak-resistant, and are overall low-maintenance.

For modern homes, compression faucets should be avoided. Although their budget-friendliness is tempting, they have a reputation for needing regular maintenance.

In conjunction with the quality of material used to build the faucet, there are a few other construction considerations to look for in the best kitchen faucet. A very common feature is to make sure that the faucet is certified lead-free, to ensure healthy and pure water will be delivered by the faucet.

Depending on how the faucet was constructed, it will be able to accommodate a certain water flow rate, which is important to you because it tells you how much water you can get at your kitchen sink. We report these flow rates in our Comparison Chart in gallons per minute (GPM). All of the faucets included in our review have an impressive flow rate, from 1.50 to 2.20 GPM.

Another thing to look for is the quality of the valve, which will ensure against drips. Many faucets include a ceramic disk valve, which has been proven durable through thousands of on-off cycles without any drips occurring. Both of the Delta faucets on our list (Delta 9178-AR-DST Leland and Delta 9113-AR-DST Essa) actually have a diamond coated valve. The tough diamond material completely seals the valve and prevents leaks or drips. Another safeguard against leaks is a one-piece construction, which can also be found in all of the Delta faucets.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Spray Head Features” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Pull-Down Return

The pull-down sprayer makes for a very beautifully designed kitchen faucet, and is why we decided to focus only on these arched faucets. However, the main issue with them has been that they tend to drag or droop after prolonged use. When choosing your new kitchen faucet, be sure to look for technology to prevent against that. Some that we encountered are Delta’s “MagnaTite”, Kohler’s “DockNetik”, and Moen’s “Reflex system”. All of these work in pretty much the same way—the hose is automatically retracted and the spray face docked in place through a magnet or other mechanism.

Hose Reach & Sprayer Functionality

Especially if you have a larger sink, a longer pull-down hose with a greater reach will become of paramount importance. Also keep in mind the functionality of the sprayer, including stream, spray and even a pause function. Most faucets have a button on the sprayer itself to allow you to toggle between the functions with just the touch of your finger.

Spray Face Maintenance

Spray faces tend to get mineral buildup over time, which requires maintenance. However, you can find faucets—including many of those in our review—that both resist the buildup and allow cleaning with just the touch of your fingers.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Installation” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Most kitchen faucets, including all of those on our top ten kitchen faucet reviews, are “surface” or “deck” mounted, meaning that they simply get mounted to the top of your counter. However you will need to see how many holes (most commonly 1- or 3-holes but sometimes 2- or even 4-holes) your faucet is compatible with. In order to install a kitchen faucet with a sink that has more than one hole, you will need to include an escutcheon—a metal base plate that covers the additional holes, or include other accessories like soap/lotion dispensers or air gaps. When considering faucets, look for those that include the escutcheon and make sure to note how many holes it is compatible with. We include all of this information in our Comparison Chart.

Another installation consideration is the connection lines. The more flexible they are (as in the Kohler K-596-CP Simplice and Kohler K-560-VS Bellera), the easier they are to install. And, obviously, the more items that the manufacturer includes with the purchase of the faucet, the better set up you will be for the actual installation (not to mention lower costs).

If you’d prefer not to deal with installing the faucet, there’s the option to purchase “expert setup” for a reasonable price when you purchase the faucet itself. Quality services are provided by a handpicked local, vetted handyman. Your handyman will ensure that your product is carefully inspected for safety.

[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”Warranty” open=”no” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow” anchor=”” class=””]

Warranties tend to be pretty generous for kitchen faucets, so definitely look for that. In many of our best kitchen faucets, the manufacturer offers an impressive limited lifetime warranty. There are different scopes of this “limited lifetime” warranty—such as a no questions asked replacement or caveats that the faucet is only under warranty by the original purchaser. So you may want to read the finer print and find the best deal.

When looking at warranties, it’s also important to look at the brand’s customer service record. If you can’t reach your company, it’s hard to get the support you need if something becomes damaged or broken. The best way to do this is by checking customer reviews and ensuring your faucet brand has a customer service office based in the United States.

1. Delta 9178-AR-DST Leland Kitchen Faucet – Best Overall of 2019

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

With the perfect combination of sleek design, high functionality, and relative affordability, Delta’s Leland faucet is a superb option for your kitchen, and our top pick of kitchen faucet. While all ten of the units listed in this article represent some of the best options on the market today, the Leland represents the highest combination of all three values. It offers a mix of traditional style and sophistication, and provides the option of using the included escutcheon metal base in order to slightly change the look of the faucet. Within the same design style, you also have the option to purchase a soap/lotion dispenser as well as a kitchen air gap. Finally, it comes in four color options: arctic stainless, chrome, Venetian bronze, and matte black.

The high-arch spout swivels a full 360 degrees for complete sink access. Adding to this, the pull-down spray wand features a 59-inch hose length that provides an impressive 20-inch reach. With the Leland, hard-to-reach, hidden corners of the sink that you can’t clean will be a thing of the past. The faucet also features a Delta exclusive technology, “MagnaTite docking”; a powerful, integrated magnet keeps the pull-down spray wand firmly in place, so it stays docked when not in use. As you raise the wand to dock it, the magnet embedded in the spout pulls it precisely into place. This protects against drooping over time, which tends to happen with pull-downs. The pull-down also allows you to toggle between water-efficient spray and stream modes or a higher flow for quick fills.

The Leland is also capable of flowing water through the faucet at 1.80 gallons per minute, which means that pots will be filled and dishes will be washed in a very timely manner. It also has an automatic water flow shut-off after four minutes to help conserve water. We love the faucet’s TempSense technology, meaning burning your hands with scalding water won’t happen anymore, so long as you pay attention. The color indicator at the base of the faucet changes color based on the temperature of your water: blue to pink to red for 80 to 95 to 110 degrees fahrenheit. Furthermore, perhaps our favorite feature, another Delta faucet exclusive is the Touch-Clean Spray Holes, which allow you to easily wipe away calcium and lime build-up with the touch of a finger. The last, and very exciting optional feature is upgrading the Leland to Delta’s Touch20 technology. While adding a little bit to the price tag, you get the luxury of being able to turn your faucet on and off with just a touch, which is a huge help when your hands are full or messy.

The fully brass, certified lead-free construction of the Leland matches its quality of design and functionality and is comparable to the Essa, reviewed below. Its InnoFlex PEX supply lines—which are included—keep water inside the faucet out of contact with potential metal contaminants. This effectively reduces your need for an additional water filter and keeps your costs lower. Furthermore, the one-piece construction of InnoFlex PEX waterways removes joints and seals, which are a common source of leaks. Another Delta exclusive, the DIAMOND Seal Technology uses a tough, diamond-coated valve. This effectively removes the risk of leaks. It also increases the longevity of the faucets life to up to five million uses, which is twice as long as the industry standard. Delta believes in this technology so much that they back it with a Faucet and Finish Lifetime Limited Warranty.

As previously mentioned, the included optional escutcheon allows for the Leland to be conveniently compatible with both a 1-hole or 3-hole deck mounted installation. It requires a 3/8-Inch water supply connection and a 2.5-Inch minimum clearance to backsplash.

2. Moen 7594ESRS Arbor Kitchen Faucet – Best Touchless Faucet

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Moen is dedicated to designing and delivering beautiful products that last a lifetime, worldwide. From their finishes that are guaranteed to last a lifetime, to faucets that have the ability to perfectly balance your water pressure, it’s no wonder that Moen has been named the #1 faucet company in North America. They definitely set the standard for beautiful design and reliable, innovative construction.

This unit comes equipped Moen’s amazing MotionSense technology. MotionSense provides the convenience of having a kitchen faucet that can actually sense what you’re trying to accomplish and respond to what you need, the moment you need it. A simple hand movement will trigger the flow of water through two advanced sensors at the top and base of the faucet. Hands-free not only adds convenience when your hands are full or messy, but it actually means that your faucet will need less cleaning and will help you control the spread of germs (think raw chicken hands).

As noted above, Moen created a faucet—in the Arbor and Arbor with MotionSense—that remarkably fits perfectly in either traditional or more contemporary kitchens. With just one handle and a pull-down spray head, the look is clean but not as minimal as some of the other best kitchen faucets reviewed. They have tailored the faucet perfectly to this end. The handle has a slight flair and the spout have a subtle curve, which creates a transitional look that works with all decorating styles. And its 26.5 x 14.8 x 4.1 inch dimensions provide an even taller arch than the Arbor, which will be sure to add the right flair to your kitchen. Functionally, the high arch also provides the height and reach to easily fill and clean large pots.

To Arbor with MotionSense is offered in three colors: chrome, spot resist stainless, and oil-rubbed bronze. Stainless is the most popular choice for most kitchens, and we love that the Arbor’s stainless option is actually “spot resist”. This topnotch finish does just what it says—resists fingerprints and water spots, resulting in a cleaner looking kitchen. This means that you get to spend more time enjoying your home and less time cleaning it with.

The faucet also features a pull-down spray head system. This pull-down ability in conjunction with an impressive 68 inch hose makes for incredible maneuverability when cleaning or rinsing cookware and dishware of all sizes. It also makes it easier to keep the basin of your sink clean without straining. The pull-down spray head is equipped with Moen’s Reflex system in which the hose automatically returns to its original position, docking smoothly and securely. Even if you forget to return the spray head to the faucet, you never have to worry about it getting stuck in its extended position or starting to droop over time.

Another incredible feature of the Arbor with MotionSense is its PowerClean technology, which provides more water pressure to remove sticky, caked-on messes in the kitchen sink and dishes. The end result is dishes that get cleaned faster and a reduction in the amount of residual water in and around the sink. With water a flow capacity of 1.50 gallons per minute and the perfect pressure, you’ll always have enough water and pressure to accomplish any cleaning or cooking task. The pull-down wand gives you two spray modes to cover everything from washing produce to scrubbing heavy pots and pans. With a simple flick of a switch, you can toggle between a steady aerated stream for everyday cleaning and a more powerful rinse for heavy-duty applications.

Moen has created a new Duralock Quick-Connect installation system, which makes installing the Arbor with MotionSense quick and easy, without the need for any tules. It actually allows water lines to be securely connected in just one quick, straightforward step. The Arbor with MotionSense is compatible with a single hole mount—which provides the cleanest look against custom countertops, or a 3-hole mount. An escutcheon—metal base— is included with the faucet to allow for a 3-hole mount installation. Before installing, also consider the option of purchasing a coordinating kitchen soap and lotion dispense. In order to utilize the MotionSense technology, also be sure to purchase the Adapter Service Kit for Moen Kitchen Faucets with MotionSense.

As one of the best faucet brands in the industry, it is no wonder that Moen stands fully behind their products, offering a limited lifetime warranty.

While all ten represent some of the best options on the market today, the Essa represents a combination of all three values, and is runner-up to our top faucet, the Leland, which the Essa shares much in common with.

5. Kohler K-560-VS Bellera Kitchen Faucet – Best Gooseneck Faucet

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Another popular and trusted name in water appliances is Kohler, and they definitely don’t fail to deliver with their Bellera kitchen faucet. The first thing you notice is it’s clean, modern arch with some more traditional embellishments. What makes this design choice so great is that this faucet would fit right into both a traditional or more contemporary kitchen. With its dimensions of 28.8 x 12.2 x 3.0 inches, the faucet has a reasonably sized footprint to make a statement designwise. The high-arch gooseneck spout is both dramatic and beautiful. We also love that Kohler gives you the option to purchase the faucet in three great colors: vibrant stainless, polished chrome, and oil-rubbed bronze. And all Kohler finishes resist both rusting and tarnishing.

Functionally, the Bellera also provides a great deal for the user. Within the faucet is a ceramic disc valves that has been proven to exceed industry longevity standards. This means that you can rest assured that the faucet will have durable performance for life. Externally, the single-handle integrated valve makes turning water on and off as well as adjusting the temperature super simple. The faucet allows for an impressive water flow of 1.80 gallons per minute. Its high-arch spout can rotate a full 360 degrees, which offers an incredible amount of clearance for whatever your task may be, from filling the biggest of pots to cleaning the far corner of the sink.

The arch has a pull-down spray head which allows, again, for easy cleaning and pot filling. The spray head uses ProMotion technology—made of a light, quiet nylon hose and ball joint, the spray head is easier and more comfortable to use. And you never have to worry about the pull-down starting to drag or droop thanks to Kohler’s DockNetik, which is a magnetic docking system located within the spout that smoothly glides and securely locks the spray head into place. The spray head comes equipped with three full functions: stream—perfect for filling pots, sweep spray—great for cleaning, and pause—when you need to shut off the water but only momentarily. And you can toggle between all three functions with just the touch. Finally, its MasterClean Sprayface withstands mineral buildup and is very easy to clean.

Where the Bellera really shines is its compatibility with virtually every kitchen. Earlier we mentioned that its design could fit in every style of kitchen. Here we explain that Kohler has made it such that the Bellera can be installed with every kind of sink. They include the optional escutcheon (metal base plate), which allows for a single-, two-, three-, or even four-hole deck mounted installation. Kohler also includes flexible supply lines and an installation ring to simplify installation. You also have the option of purchasing and including a complimentarily designed soap or lotion dispenser and air gap cover. If you’d prefer not to deal with installing the faucet, expert installation may be worth it. Kohler also stands behind their products and offers a limited lifetime guarantee on the faucet.

6. American Standard Colony Kitchen Faucet – Best Budget Faucet

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

With one of the lower price points on our kitchen faucet reviews article, the American Standard Colony is an amazing choice for a durable, quality faucet with a few less of the bells and whistles that you might find with some of our other best picks. This falls right in line with the American Standard Brand’s determination to provide performance and style. They are focused on putting consumer design-driven selections on the market. They are also intent on their products having exclusive performance features that eliminate the dreaded leaky faucet, reduce installation time, save water, and add durability and dependability. We found, and expand upon in the following review, that American Standard certainly accomplished these design and performance goals in the Colony.

Design-wise, the Colony has a beautiful, contemporary feel with more subtle and softer lines allowing it to fit into any kitchen design easily. Its dimension of 22 x 14 x 3.3 inches indicate a moderately high arch that will add a stunning design element to your kitchen as well as more functionality in filling and cleaning large pots and pans. The Colony is constructed of pure brass and comes in two color options of stainless steel and polished chrome. And the one-lever, brass swivel spout keeps the faucet looking clean and easy to function. The brass construction allows the faucet to hold up to prolonged exposure to water, as brass has naturally corrosion resistant properties. These natural properties of brass also make it the best material for applying colors and finishes, allowing the finish to able to become part of the faucet itself instead of simply an outside coating. Because of this true fusion between structure and finish, the Colony is scratch, tarnish, and corrosion resistant. This means that even after years of use, the faucet will still look new!

Functionally, the Colony was designed with the user’s convenience in mind. The high arch kitchen faucet features a pull-down sprayer, which has an adjustable spray pattern between stream and spray, and even a pause feature. With an impressive water flow rate capability of 2.2 gallons per minute, the Colony has the ability to fit pots and clean at a faster rate than any of the faucets on our kitchen faucet reviews list.

We were also very impressed in the expert construction of the Colony. In particular, the faucet features a ceramic disc valve which helps to keep the faucet maintenance free and provides smooth handle control, even in extreme temperatures or hard water conditions. The valve is tested to withstand over one million on-and-off cycles without failure. The end result is assurance that your kitchen faucet will never drip for its lifetime. American Standard took safety into consideration as well, meeting the NSF Standard 61/Section 9 and Prop 65 lead requirements set forth by the government. It also has an ADA approved handle with memory position valve. The memory position valve allows you to quickly turn on and off the faucet without worrying about accidentally changing the temperature. This would be incredibly useful for young kids using the sink, so that you never have to worry about them accidentally burning themselves with hot water.

Installation is deck mounted and is compatible with both a 1-hole or 3-hole sink. If choosing the latter, you can use the supplied escutcheon (metal base). You may also be interested in purchasing and installing a complimentary soap dispenser.

American Standard backs the Colony with an impressive lifetime function and finish limited warranty. Specifically, the faucet is warranted to be free from defect in materials or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the home in which it is installed.

7. Kraus KPF-1602 Single Kitchen Faucet – Best Industrial Kitchen Faucet

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Definitely the most unique faucet in our top ten best kitchen faucet list, we totally dig the Kraus Single Handle. This heavy duty commercial-style faucet features a unique industrial aesthetic that creates a dramatic look with contemporary appeal. Some, with a very traditional aesthetic, may find this ultramodern faucet too out there, but we love that it’s quirky and makes a statement. With 23.5 x 12.2 x 3.0 dimensions, it has an impressively tall arch. But what makes this faucet even more of a statement piece is the exposed coil on the pull-down sprayer with a spring around the spout, as well as the commercial spray head. This look isn’t for everyone, but we think the professional looking faucet would add an incredible design element to any kitchen that is willing to take a fun risk. And although not your average kitchen faucet, the color choices of flawless commercial grade stainless steel or a chrome finish allow the Kraus to still coordinate with your other fixtures and appliances. The commercial grade faucet boasts superior rust-free finishes.

As far as durable construction goes, it doesn’t get much better than the Kraus. It functions more like a faucet you would find in a commercial kitchen, where efficiency and effectiveness are both key. To ensure maximum durability, this faucet is constructed with certified lead-free brass. It also avails itself of industry leading technology, including its Kerox ceramic cartridge (tested with over 500,000 cycles) that allow for lasting, drip-free use. It is also outfitted with a high-performance and low-flow Neoperl aerator, which is used to reduce water waste without sacrificing pressure. And its “LiteTouch” single lever allows you to easily control water flow and temperature control.

Its commercial kitchen qualities don’t only apply to its design. As previously mentioned, the Kraus features a high-arch industrial-style open-coil spout, which makes the faucet a statement piece. However it also increases the faucet’s functionality by swiveling 360 degrees for added flexibility, providing the ability to reach every part of the sink. The Kraus also has an ergonomic pull-down sprayer embedded with rubber nozzles to prevent hard water and limescale buildup. This keeps your maintenance duties to a minimum. The spray head includes an integrated diverter that makes it easy to instantly switch from spout to powerful pre-rinse spray. When you press the sprayer’s lever handle, it diverts the flow of water from the main spout while maintaining the faucet’s impressive 1.80 gallons per minute water flow rate.

Single-hole mounting allows you to seamlessly integrate this faucet with your sink. Kraus keeps installation even easier by providing all mounting hardware with purchase. However, if your sink requires more than 1-hole for installation, be sure to purchase a corresponding escutcheon.

We found Kraus to be a leading manufacturer of kitchen (as well as bathroom) fixtures. They are dedicated to ensuring exceptional quality in their products, always made with the industry’s finest materials and cutting-edge designs. This kitchen faucet is no different, and Kraus backs it with an impressive limited lifetime warranty.

8. Kohler K-596-CP Simplice Kitchen Faucet – Best Gooseneck Alternate

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The second product to make our kitchen faucet list, Kohler definitely is proving its trusted name in the industry. Like the previously reviewed Bellera, the Simplice has the same quality construction and functionality, which we will discuss below. But what sets it over the top for me is its beautifully contemporary design, without being sparse or too minimalist. The Simplice has sleek, fluid lines that will coordinate easily with a wide range of kitchen styles and designs. And on a functional note, the lack of too many embellishments or grooves definitely simplifies maintenance and cleaning. The faucet’s dimensions are 23.5 x 12.2 x 3.0 inches, giving it a slightly shorter spout the Bellera’s. But it is still tall enough to make a design statement and fill those large pots with water. And we love the Kohler produces the Simplice in three color options: polished chrome, vibrant stainless, and matte black. And all Kohler finishes resist both rusting and tarnishing.

From a construction standpoint, this American manufactured faucet has many of the same features and conveniences of its sister Bellera. Within the faucet is a ceramic disc valves that has been proven to exceed industry longevity standards. This means that you can rest assured that the faucet will have durable performance for life. Externally, the single-handle integrated valve makes turning water on and off as well as adjusting the temperature super simple. And within the handle is actually a temperature memory, which allows the faucet to be turned on and off at the temperature set during prior usage. Anyone who has had to stop their cooking to tend to a child or another task, knows how much of a convenience and time saver this can be! The Simplice also flow water at an impressive 1.80 gallons per minute. Although it has a lot of water pressure and flow features, it also meets water savings requirements for California Energy Commission (CEC), CALGreen, and Colorado SB 14-103. Finally, Its high-arch spout can rotate a full 360 degrees, which offers an incredible amount of clearance.

And you can toggle between all three functions with just the touch. Finally, its MasterClean Spray face withstands mineral buildup and is very easy to clean. Another way that the Simplice lowers your maintenance requirements. And one less thing to clean in the kitchen is good with us!

Installation for the Simplice is deck mounted with a 1- or 3-hole sink. To install with the latter option, you would use the included escutcheon, or metal base plate. Kohler also includes flexible supply lines and an installation ring to simplify installation. And you have an additional option of purchasing and installing a complimentarily designed soap or lotion dispenser and air gap cover. Kohler also stands behind this product and offers a limited lifetime guarantee on the faucet.

9. Moen 7294SRS Arbor One Kitchen Faucet – Best Pull-Out Faucet

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The second Moen faucet to be featured in this best kitchen faucets article, this unit is from the same family as the Moen faucet that was reviewed above, and touts a unique pull-out design, rather than the pulldown format that’s more commonly seen with today’s kitchen faucets. Although it’s not a super common design any longer (back in the day, pull-out faucets were the standard), pull-out units still have their place in the kitchen and are the preferred choice of kitchen faucet for many discerning buyers.

While pulldown faucets tend to have a higher, steeper arc, their pull-out counterparts, including the Moen 7294SRS Arbor One, usually have more gradual arcs that don’t reach quite as high and instead extend further outward towards the user, hence the names ‘pulldown’ and ‘pull-out’. Additionally, the detachable faucet portion of pull-out units have more to hold on to when removed from the rest of the faucet as a portion of the faucet neck comes with it, meaning more control than a standard pulldown faucet, as only the sprayer head itself detaches on pulldown units. With Moen’s reflex pulldown system, the pull-out portion of the faucet comes equipped with a 68-inch braided hose, meaning a great deal of slack for excellent maneuverability, and even returns to its docked position when let go of by the user.

As we touched on in the above paragraph, pull-out faucets don’t usually reach as high as pulldown faucets, as their necks extend toward the user. That being said, the neck on the Moen 7294SRS reaches higher than most pulldown units, and could almost be considered a hybrid of the two styles. If you decide that a pull-out faucet is your preferred style, this unit offers everything a standard pull-out offers, but with more height to boot.

When it comes to installing this unit, Moen’s Hydrolock installation system makes the process simple and seamless, with water lines able to be attached without the use of tools. Additionally, as the spout can rotate completely around, the handle can be installed on both the left and right.

Moen currently offers this unit in five finishes: Spot Resist stainless steel, chrome, classic stainless steel, oil-rubbed bronze, and matte black. While all five of their finishes are beautiful and have their place in various kitchen decors, it’s Moen’s Spot Resist stainless steel finish that stands out from the rest. Moen’s focus on technology has led to numerous innovations, one of which being their Spot Resist finish that has the ability to resist water spots and fingerprints better than standard stainless steel.

This particular faucet has a water flow of 1.5 gallons per minute, contains an ADA compliant lever handle, and, as always with Moen products, includes a Limited Lifetime Warranty for drips, leaks and defects in the finish.

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

Pros

  • Pull-out design offers unique functionality with a large amount of real estate on the detachable sprayer
  • Neck of this unit reaches higher than the necks of average pull-out faucets
  • Hydrolock installation technology means installation is a breeze
  • Five finishes means no matter what your decor, there’s a Moen 7294SRS perfect for your kitchen
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty is included with all Moen products

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • Pull-out units don’t have as high of arcs as their pulldown counterparts

[/su_column][/su_row]

The Bottom Line

With its classic pull-out functionality, higher than normal arc, and the quality you’d expect from Moen, this faucet is without a doubt the best pull-out unit available on the market, and one of the top picks among these kitchen faucet reviews.

Kitchen Faucet Types

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Each faucet type has design features that solve a different problem. Before you begin browsing, think carefully about the challenges you encounter and how you wish your sink could be better.

Pull Down vs. Pull Out

Pull-down vs. pull-out describes different ways that water sprayers can be built and used in your kitchen sink.

Pull-down sprayers usually have more than one spraying option, making it a versatile tool from cleaning dishes to filling pots. Because they’re attached to your faucet, they’re seen as more comfortable to use (one swift down motion).

Pull-out sprayers are a separate attachment and are usually to the right or left of your main faucet. They typically have a longer hose than pull-down sprayers, and because of their maneuverability, it might be better for small spaces. People find that pull-out sprayers make less of a mess and sometimes have better water pressure as well.

Single-Handle vs. Two-Handle

Single-handle faucets work by combining both the hot and water through one lever. The position of the handle changes both the temperature of the water and how much water flows through. In contrast, two-handle faucets isolate the hot and cold water, and each handle needs to be adjusted for water flow.

Some people find single-handle faucets easier and quicker for the kitchen, but others prefer the more classic look of a two-handle faucet.

Wall-Mounting

Wall mounting your kitchen faucets can add a modern and practical touch to your home. It’s a great way to save a bit of space, and mounting on the wall means you can have some flexibility on where it’s installed. There is a range of stylish yet durable faucet designs to choose from for this mounting style.

Touchless

If you prefer your sink to be modern in both form and function, check out touchless kitchen faucets. Touchless is a bit of a misnomer, since there are both motion-sensor faucets (truly touchless), and tap-on faucets that require a soft touch or tap on the top of the faucet arch to turn on and off.

Regardless of which style you choose, both are a great way to modernize your kitchen sink while also keeping your faucet cleaner for longer. They’re a convenient way to turn your faucet on and off, are easy for kids to use, and can help you save water.

Compression

Compression faucets are relatively inexpensive, but that’s where the perks end. They have a reputation for being hard to use and not very durable. Compression faucets are typically found in older homes and always have two-handles. If you can, we’d generally recommend avoiding this type of kitchen faucet.

Centerset

Centerset faucets are typically made for sinks with three-holes, one for the faucet and one for each handle. They are typically connected by a plate that covers the base of each part.

Wide Set faucets are similar to centersets, except that there is usually no plate to unify the two handles and one faucet. These two types are in contrast to the single-handle faucets, which require only one sink hole.

[/su_note]

How to Install Your Faucet

Installation will be smooth and easy if the type of faucet you choose matches the number of holes in your sink. For example, if you plan to purchase a centerset or wideset faucet, make sure your sink has three holes to accommodate both handles and the faucet.

If you have too many holes, such as a single-handle faucet but a three-holed sink, you can always get a decorative plate to cover the extra holes. This plate is also called an escutcheon and is often included in your purchase.

Water Efficient Faucets

Getting a water-efficient kitchen faucet makes your home more environmentally friendly and can help you conserve water and lower your utility bills.

The EPA’s WaterSense seal was created to help you make environmentally friendly and water-efficient choices. Because it’s a government seal, they aren’t biased to any particular brand or model. Although the EPA doesn’t currently rate kitchen faucets, choosing a faucet with a maximum of 2.2 GPM would meet their requirements.

You can also look for faucets with a lower flow rate. For reference, bathroom faucets are usually around 1 to 1.5 GPM. If you think you can do with a lower GPM, it’s an easy way to conserve water.

Best Faucet Brands

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Delta

Founded in 1954, Delta is the third oldest brand on this list. Arguably the most popular kitchen faucet brand in North America, Delta states that their three tenets are, “water has the power to transform the way people feel every day, there can be magic in simple solutions and innovations flow from human insight.”

When it comes to innovation, Delta does it as good as, if not better than everyone else. With technologies like Touch2O, MagnaTite Docking, and H2Okinetic, Delta continually disrupts the faucet industry and reimagines a kitchen faucet’s role in the kitchen.

Coupling innovation with high quality parts and materials, Delta’s products are long-lasting and will maintain their form and function year after year, until you decide to change up the look of your kitchen, that is.

What’s more, Delta places a great deal of focus on their customer service, and strives to ensure satisfaction across all metrics. Furthermore, every Delta product includes a limited lifetime warranty.

Moen

If you’re wondering who invented the single-handle faucet, wonder no longer; Moen was formed after its founder, Al Moen, burned his hands on a two-handle faucet. Mr. Moen believed there had to be a better way to deliver water from a faucet, and in 1947, manufacturing began on the first single-handle faucets.

From the beginning, Moen was a brand with a mission to make our lives easier, and they continue to accomplish this mission over 70 years later. With its Hydrolock Connection System, Spot Resist finish, Motionsense, and Reflex System, Moen continues to follow in the steps of its founder in making the every day lives of Moen fixture owners just a little bit easier.

Much like Delta, innovation and technological advancements are ingrained in the DNA of Moen as a brand. While the other three brands listed in this section are superb, one might argue that the conversation regarding the best faucet brand is really Delta vs. Moen.

Although not up to Delta levels, Moen’s customer support is good, with apparent some room for improvement, according to a few consumer reports. All Moen products include a limited lifetime warranty with purchase.

Kohler

Incepted in 1873, Kohler is by far the oldest brand on this list, meaning they have the most experience in designing and manufacturing home appliance fixtures, and by a large margin at that.

While all of the brands and faucets in this article are sophisticated, Kohler, with their ‘Bold Look of Kohler’ catchphrase, take sophistication to new heights. With a focus on more traditional silhouettes, Kohler’s fixtures add a level of class and upscale appeal to any room.

As is a theme with kitchen faucet brands, Kohler has some innovative technology of their own, in the form of DockNetic functionality, which prevents their pull-down sprayers from drooping, MasterClean Spray, able to withstand the buildup of minerals, and ProMotion, a combination of a nylon hose and ball joint. Keep in mind, however, Kohler’s focus is more on the minimal functionality of their products, rather than being the first to market some new feature like some of the other brands in our best kitchen faucets article.

As is a theme at this point, Kohler offers a limited lifetime warranty.

Kraus

Compared to the other brands on this list, Kraus is still in its infancy, having been founded just 12 years ago in 2007. Don’t let Kraus’ lack of experience fool you, however, as they have made a name for themselves in the home fixture world and are on an even playing field with the other best brands listed.

Take one look at various home fixture marketplaces and you’re bound to see Kraus products all over the place in various categories. When we first began researching Kraus, we thought they’d been founded at least 50 years ago due to the number of products they’ve brought to market and number of distributors they have across North America.

Kraus’ mission is to provide clean, modern and high quality products and make them accessible to every customer. While their products aren’t the most high-tech, they are products you can count on to go the distance and function as intended for years to come. Some features of Kraus faucets include Kerox ceramic cartridges that prevent dripping, LifeTouch single levers, and Neoperl aerators to conserve water yet maintain high pressure.

Once again, as these are the top faucet brands out there, Kraus includes a limited lifetime warranty with purchase.

If you’re committed to having healthier water in your home, we’d recommend a whole house water filter. They install at the point-of-entry for water so that you can have clean, healthy, and delicious water from every tap.

What is the typical GPM for a kitchen water faucet?

Most kitchen faucets have around a 1.8 to 2.2 GPM flow rate. This rate is higher than bathroom faucets since kitchen faucets are designed to help you clean dishes, fill large pots, and other water-heavy chores. To save water, you can look for a faucet that leans toward a lower GPM.

How Do I Keep My Kitchen Faucet Clean?

To clean your kitchen faucet, use gentle cleaners like a soft rag, water, baking soda, or white vinegar. You can also dilute bleach to wipe down your faucet. If you have a specialty finish like brass or nickel, double-check which cleaners are safe to use.

In general, it’s important to avoid harsh cleaners, abrasives, or other overly rough materials. Using these materials can damage the finish and therefore the longevity of your kitchen faucet.

How Long Should a Kitchen Faucet Last?

If monitored and well-maintained, kitchen faucets can last for 15 to 20 years or more. The lifespan of your faucet will vary based on how much use the faucet gets, the finish type, the quality of water, and other factors.

Look for brands that brand offer a limited lifetime warranty, to ensure that even if damage occurs, you can get support and repairs completed quickly.

How Do I Fix a Leaky Faucet?

First, turn off your water supply either under the sink or at the point-of-entry for your house.

Next, determine the cause of your leaky faucet. For cartridge faucets, loose or broken o-rings are usually the culprits. Compression faucets usually suffer from worn out washers. Build up around the inlet and outlet seals can cause leaking in ceramic disk faucets.

From there, you can figure out which supplies to buy or communicate to a professional what in particular needs fixing. Be sure to consult the original manufacturer’s manual for sizing, parts, and other repair information.
