1. Tineco A10 Master – Editor’s Choice 2019

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Tineco has been around since 1998. They’re not yet a household name in the U.S. like Dyson or Hoover. Instead, they have been getting famous in many countries (they’re currently sold in over 60) overseas. They recently hit the ground running in the U.S. with their flagship A10 vacuum. Since we originally wrote this article in May of 2017, both Shark and Dyson vacuums have held our top rated position and were our editor’s choice picks. However, as of 2019, the A10 Master from Tineco is the best cordless vacuum on the market.

In looking over all that the A10 Master has to offer, it’s clear Tineco has spent a great deal of time analyzing the cordless vacuum market overall. They’ve created a cordless vacuum that hits marks other brands have missed. The greatest examples is the two detachable batteries included with purchase. Each can be charged together or separately. You can leave them attached or detach from the vacuum itself. While there’s no denying Dyson vacuums are great, one of their biggest pitfalls is the inability to detach the battery. If a Dyson’s battery is dead, the vacuum is completely useless. You have to wait hours until it’s recharged. Shark’s IONFlex 2x DuoClean IF251, reviewed below, worked to solve this issue with their two detachable batteries. They fell short, because both batteries can’t be charged at the same time.

Another feature the A10 Master gets right is its continuous power mode switch lock. Other cordless vacuums require the user to continuously hold down the power button for it to function. Tineco has designed the A10 Master with functionality to keep the vacuum on. Seems small, but for large jobs it will save your fingers. This may not seem like a big deal, but I can say firsthand that even holding a the power button down for a few minutes can strain my index finger. The best cordless vacuum needs to be usable without strain.

The A10 Master is the result of Tineco’s attention to detail. Besides the two important features we’ve discussed above, users of this machine tout the quality of its materials. It’s also very durable. It also doesn’t hurt that Tineco has created a sleek and modern cordless vacuum. Included with purchase is an LED multi-tasker power brush. It also has an LED soft-roller power brush. The multi-tasker brush pulls out even the most embedded dirt from carpet. The soft-roller brush works to protect your hard surfaces while still picking up any and all unwanted filth.

The core function of a vacuum cleaner is its ability to suck up dirt, dust and other grime. The A10 Master’s suction power probably shouldn’t be one of the last features discussed, but here we are. When it comes to suction, the A10 Master is one of the best, especially for its price. In fact, many users believe it has some of the best suction on the market. Tineco explains that the 110 air watt motor of the A10 gives this vacuum four times the suction of ordinary direct current cordless vacuums. The A10 Master’s four stage, fully sealed filtration system ensures your home’s air is clean and high quality.

For all these reasons, the Tineco A10 master is the best cordless stick vacuum.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to hitting the nail on the head, Tineco has excellent aim. Although they may not have been the first to market, their patience and willingness to listen to cordless stick vacuum users has paid off. The A10 Master is the most complete cordless vacuum available. It deserves every bit of the admiration it’s been receiving this year.

2. Shark IONFlex 2x DuoClean IF251

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Shark is a newer brand. It hasn’t been around as long as Hoover or Bissell. Their functional, innovative products have provided them a great deal of exposure. Due to this their share of the household cleaning market is expanding. Furthermore, Shark backs this particular unit with a five-year limited warranty. Shark’s line of vacuums actually come from parent company SharkNinja. While Shark is the name they go by in the vacuum industry, the brand is famous for high-end kitchen counter appliances. Their blenders and coffee makers under the name Ninja are legendary.

What makes this specific unit stand out from the rest? It is the most complete overall cordless vacuum. The DuoClean IF251 has standard, high quality features you’d expect to find on a Shark vacuum, and unique, valuable features not found in any other cordless vacuum. Below, we’ll detail this unit’s 2X ION Power Pack System, MultiFLEX technology, handheld mode, DuoClean technology, easy-access buttons and included accessories.

The IONFlex 2x DuoClean IF251’s 2x ION Power Pack System (phew, that was a mouthful) allows for seamless vacuuming by way of removable, rechargeable battery packs. Most cordless vacuums internally houses the battery which does not allow for the vacuum to be in use while the battery is charging. The DuoClean IF251 offers batteries that can be charged separately from the vacuum itself, meaning the unit can be in use with a fresh battery while the used up one is recharged. Cordless vacuums are all about convenience over their less sophisticated corded brothers. Waiting for a battery to recharge in between longer jobs always is not very convenient. In fact, it’s annoying! With Shark’s 2x ION Power Pack System, batteries (which each last about 30 minutes) can be quickly swapped out during longer jobs, meaning a more seamless clean for the user. That being said, only one battery can be charged at a time.

Adding to this unit’s ION Power Pack System, its other truly innovative feature is its MultiFLEX technology. To make cleaning underneath furniture simpler, Shark has designed this unit with a wand that can bend. This allows the vacuum to reach areas without the user needing to kneel down like he or she would need to with a standard vacuum cleaner. Furthermore, this technology allows the unit to folder over itself, shifting the weight distribution, resulting in a freestanding cordless vacuum when it’s not in use. Pretty amazing. Unlike other cordless vacuums, this unit doesn’t need to be propped up against a wall (and risk falling over and damaging the unit, wall, floor, or all the above) when you need to step away for a minute.

While innovation is great, the DuoClean IF251 wouldn’t be considered the best of the best stick vacuum without a standard handheld mode. While Shark has outfitted this unit with out of the box features like the 2X ION Power Pack System and MultiFLEX technology, it didn’t forget to retain the features that already work so well in a cordless vacuum format. At a moment’s notice, this unit can be converted into its handheld mode. In this mode it offers the superior floor cleaning for furniture, the car, or anywhere else that needs dirt removed.

This is a vacuum cleaner and we’re in technologically-advanced 2019. It should perform the basic job of vacuuming really well. While the unique innovations of the Shark stands out, this vacuum picks up dirt, dust and debris without mercy. This is due to Shark’s DuoClean technology. This consists of a bristle brush for deep cleaning carpets as well as a soft brushroll to grab larger debris.

Rounding out the list of features for this unit are its easy access buttons and included accessories. With a click, the vacuum can be powered on and off. It can be cycled between floor and carpet mode as well as normal and super mode. While Dyson cordless units have to be held “on” to function, the DuoClean IF251 provides an easier, less strenuous way of keeping the rolls rolling and vacuum vacuuming. Included with purchase are two interchangeable batteries, a charging dock, dust crevice tool, pet multi tool, and anti-allergen dust brush.

All these features make the Shark DuoClean a great if not the best cordless stick vacuum in 2019.

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

Pros

  • Included with purchase are two removable and rechargeable batteries that can be interchanged while the other is charging
  • Innovative MultiFLEX technology means easy access under furniture and allows for the vacuum to stand on its own when not in use, without being propped up against a wall
  • Handheld mode offers added convenience and versatility for vacuuming household upholstery, the car, or anywhere else above the floor
  • Features Shark’s renowned DuoClean technology, which uses both a bristle brush and soft brushroll that cleans carpets deeply as well as grabs larger pieces of dirt and dust
  • Easy-access buttons mean one click to turn the vacuum on or off, switch from hardwood to carpet mode, and from normal to super mode
  • Pet multi tool and anti-allergen dust brush provide a deeper clean for households with pets and/or those with allergy issues

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • One of the more expensive cordless vacuums on the market, although it’s features do warrant a heftier price tag
  • Only one battery can be charging at a time, meaning you’ll have to swap them out manually once one is charged
  • May not have as much consistent suction as some of its competitors

3. Hoover Linx BH50010

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Stick vacuums are a great choice for those living in tight apartments or condos. They take much less storage space. While they excel in the space saving, they tend to be less powerful and to have less features than you would get with a traditional upright or canister vacuum. Hoover addresses those concerns with their Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner.

If you’ve ever shopped for or even used a vacuum, chances are you know the name “Hoover”. They are an American vacuum cleaner company that created first ever upright vacuum. Since then they have been a leading name in the industry for over 100 years. They keep their deputation due to their high quality and technologically advanced products. They’ve established a global presence and became so popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland that the “Hoover” became synonymous with the word “vacuum cleaner”. It’s hard to go wrong with the tried and tested Hoover products, and the Linx is no exception.

The Linx is the first stick vacuum with Hoover’s patented WindTunnel Technology. This technology was originally introduced in 1997. It has been implemented in many of Hoover’s very successful upright vacuum lines. It is unique in that it helps trap and channel dirt by lifting and removing surface debris and dirt that is embedded deep down in carpet. More simply, it is a more efficient way of removing dirt from your floors instead of just trapping and rescattering it. The Linx also boasts cyclonic filtration edge cleaning. The filter is washable and provides a deeper clean. And a replacement filter can be repurchased, if necessary: Hoover Linx Washable & Reusable Foam Sponge Filter, Pack of 3. Mainly because of these specific technologies, the Linx is a slender stick vacuum that still provides the performance you can usually only get with upright vacuums.

In conjunction with the WindTunnel and cyclonic filtration technology, other features of the Linx ensure that it gives you a deep and thorough clean. It is designed to have a wider base and therefore a wider cleaning path. This means you cover more surface area in a shorter amount of time. The vacuum has edge-to-edge bristles, which allows you to clean closer access to walls and corners. Hoover really considered everything someone might want out of a vacuum, and gave the Linx a handle that has extreme recline. This allows you to reach far under furniture easily.

The reason that most people purchase stick vacuums is for their compact and lightweight design. The Linx is 10.4 x 8 x 24.8 inches, which is shorter than most of the vacuums on our top ten best cordless vacuums list. This low profile base allows it to fit easily under counter edges and tables. And with the previously mentioned handle recline, there’s really no spot it can’t reach. It’s also a light 10 pounds, which can easily be carried from room to room. Unlike some other sticks on our list, the Linx functions very well on both bare floors and carpet. It is equipped with an on/off brushroll switch to easily make the change between surfaces. Other user-friendly features that Hoover include are power controls located conveniently right at your fingertips, as well as a bottom release dirt cup that allows you to clean up without ever getting your hands dirty.

As with all of our vacuums in this cordless vacuum review article, the Linx is conveniently cord free. This means better reach and no hassle of having to unwind, plug and replug from room to room, and navigate around a cord. Hoover takes this to the next level by equipping the Linx with a very powerful 18 Volt lithium-ion battery. The linx comes with this high power battery and charger, but you can also purchase an interchangeable Hoover LiNX 18 Volt Lithium Ion Battery should you need it. The vacuum also has a smart technology battery fuel gauge, so that you instantly know how much battery life you have left.

Hoover backs the Linx with a limited 2-year warranty.

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Bottom Line

The Hoover Linx is a stick vacuum that acts as much like a traditional upright as any we’ve seen. It has power, features, and performance at a budget friendly price. There are few things to find wrong with this vacuum; if you’re looking for a stick this is a great choice.

4. Shark Navigator Freestyle SV1106

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

With a lower price, the Shark Navigator Freestyle is one of the best options if you’re working with a tight budget. As a stick vacuum, it offers not only a lower cost but also a very space-saving design. At 10.5 x 9.6 x 46 inches and 7.5 inches, the Navigator Freestyle can be easily stored in small closets. It is also a dream to move around easily and transport from room to room.

Shark is a company with their ultimate goal to provide products that are innovative, user friendly and easy to use, and that have very competitive pricing. Their CEO, Mark Rosenzweig, has always been passionate to lead his team in developing both groundbreaking and inventive products at a great value for their customers. Because they have very much met these goals, the company has quickly found a high ranking place in the housewares industry, including vacuums. The Navigator Freestyle definitely lives up to the goals that Shark set forth, and offers consumers an innovative product at cheaper price-point.

While not the most powerful option on the market or even in this article, the Navigator Freestyle provides users with a quick and convenient clean-up option that can be used on all types of surfaces. It’s easily stored in the pantry or any closet and can be carried from one room to another with minimal effort. We love that although it is minimal in size, the Navigator Freestyle is equipped with an extra-large dust cup. This cup holds more dirt and debris, allowing you to empty it less frequently and therefore have longer periods of cleaning without interruption. Shark also offers numerous cleaning tips for those who desire to deep clean there habitat. The dust cup is innovatively designed so that it can be emptied from either the top or the bottom, whichever is more convenient for you in any situation so that you don’t have to interact with the dirt.

While we mentioned that this stick vacuum may not be as powerful as some of the uprights reviewed, please hear us when we say that it still offers fantastic cleaning on both bare floors and carpet. Unlike some other stick vacuums on the market, the Navigator Freestyle offers a 2-speed brushroll, which optimizes cleaning efficiency on carpet and bare floors. This powerful motorized brush also results in remarkably strong suction power that lifts embedded debris and pet hair from floors. In fact, the Navigator Freestyle was rated the best stick vacuum for picking up pet hair.

Shark included other consumer-focused conveniences as well. The Navigator Freestyle is equipped with advanced swivel steering, which allows for excellent control and easy maneuvering around furniture. As with all of our cordless vacuums, this stick is conveniently cord free, which increases in maneuverability. It comes with a precision charger that doubles as a storage dock, and charges the battery in 4 hours.

Shark backs the Navigator Freestyle with a 1-year limited warranty. Depending on where you decide to purchase your vacuum, be on the lookout for options to purchase additional protection plans that cover your vacuum above and beyond the scope of the warranty.

5. Electrolux Ergorapido EL2055B 2 in 1

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

As one of the cheaper options on our top ten list as well as the skinniest, the Electrolux Ergorapido is the best choice for those on a tight budget and tight on space. Electrolux has been a global leader in home appliances since 1919. They design their products, based on deep consumer insight and develop them in close collaboration with professional users. Because of that, their products are very focused on what actual user needs are (hence the Ergorapido being budget friendly and a space saver). With their headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, the simple, sleek, and stylish Swedish design elements are apparent in all of their products—the Ergorapido included.

Most people choose stick vacuums—like the Ergorapido—for their compact dimensions and easy storability. The Ergorapido definitely delivers in that regard. At only 5.5 pounds, it can be easily carried from room to room without much effort. And because it is bagless, there is no awkward bulk to negotiate as you try to move the vacuum. Like its style implies, moving the Ergorapido is much like carrying a stick. Its dimensions of 10.8 x 5.0 x 42.5 inches make it the skinniest vacuum on our list, making it the perfect choice for those living in a small apartment, condo, or college dorm.

While the Ergorapido has a lower price point and small footprint, it is not short on power. The bagless cyclonic system allows the small stick vacuum to gives you consistent suction power and a motorized brushroll to thoroughly clean your home. Stick vacuums are great for storage, but tend to be weaker when it comes to suction power. The Ergorapido is equipped with a high performance 10.8V lithium turbo power battery that powers the vacuum’s cleaning performance. The battery runs more than 20 minutes per charge, and charges in a short amount of time.

The Swedish designed, compact stick vacuum provides many other conveniences that you wouldn’t think about unless you worked with focus groups of actual users. One of these is its 180° “EasySteer Maneuverability”, which allows you to turn and move easily and smoothly. Another of these features is the fact that it is self-standing. While this may not seem like a big deal, it’s very helpful whenever you may have those unexpected interruptions to your cleaning. Finally, the vacuum comes with both a crevice tool and a dusting brush, both of which store conveniently in the handle. This allows you to clean crevices, stairs, and flat surfaces easily and without needing any other appliances.

While what we’ve discussed thus far is impressive, perhaps the most impressive convenience of the Ergorapido is the built-in handheld vacuum. It easily detaches from the main unit and can be used to clean small spills or anything above the floor. With this feature, Ergorapido is not only already one of the most budget friendly options on our top ten best cordless vacuums, but it actually provides you with two separate appliances plus two accessories in one, self-contained and compact unit.

One thing to consider with the Ergorapido is that it does require a genuine Electrolux Ergorapido Filter when replacement is needed. It is also only compatible with Electrolux accessories. But it comes with an impressively long 5-year limited warranty. When buying your vacuum, you’ll sometimes have the option to purchase an additional warranty that goes above and beyond the one included with purchase.

6. Black+Decker 20V 2 in 1

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

When you hear “Black+Decker”, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably not vacuums. More likely, you’ve seen their products at home improvement stores and may even have a few in your tool kit. The very popular company is an American manufacturer of power tools, accessories, hardware, home improvement products and technology based fastening systems. While they don’t specialize primarily in vacuums, they know a thing or two about technology, harnessing power, and home improvement.

They’ve used that wide range of knowledge to create an inexpensive, durable (thank you background in power tools), and versatile vacuuming machine. Stick vacuums are generally purchased in lieu of the more popular uprights because of their compact design and easy storage. The downside of many stick vacuums is that they generally have much less power than the bulkier uprights. Black+Decker combines the pros of both kinds with this ultra powerful but still slender stick vacuum. The Black+Decker’s suction is strong enough to pick up dirt and debris just one pass. The vacuum was able to pick up 1 cup of Cheerios in just one pass over bare floor. The vacuum is equipped with a powered beater bar, which agitates dust and debris in carpets for a deep-down clean. We especially love that this beater bar is easily removable for quick cleaning and maintenance.

The powerful suction of the Black+Decker 20V 2 in 1 is thanks to a strong lithium battery. Not only does it provide a tremendous amount of power, it also provides long vacuuming time per charge. The Black+Decker is able to vacuum a 2500-square-foot house on just one charge. And the best part is that—like all of the vacuums on our cordless vacuums list—the Black+Decker provides all this power without a cord getting in the way. With purchase of the vacuum they also include a jack plug battery charger as well as an extendable crevice tool, brush attachment, pleated Pre-Filter, and the previously mentioned washable filter.

The Black+Decker also boasts more technological features than many of its stick competitors. This particular vacuum is part of their “SmarTech” line that is focused on cleaning smarter, not harder. The vacuum’s “AutoSense” feature allows the carpet to automatically sense and then adjust from bare floor to high pile carpet and back again. The “BatterySense” feature indicates the level of charge. And the “FilterSense” feature illuminates when a new filter is required, you’ll neither use it with a dirty filter nor have to check it every time you vacuum. We also love that the filters are inexpensive and easy to acquire. Black+Decker also provides, with the vacuum, a washable, reusable filter if you’d prefer to use that.

The reason that many people opt for stick vacuums are its storability and transportability. Although this Black+Decker unit is slightly larger than other sticks—coming in at 11.4 x 10.5 x 29 inches and 9 pounds in weight—the vacuum is still easy to store and to carry from room to room. It also features swivel steering, which allows you to get around furniture easily and without any nicks. And where it really leads the pack in versatility is that it boasts a combined handheld vacuum for smaller and hard-to-get-to messes. No need to lug the whole vacuum up the stairs for a small spill; just detach the handheld Dustbuster.

Lastly, we love Black+Decker’s whimsical choice of eggplant for the vacuum, which is not something you usually see. They clearly believe in the vacuum as much as we do, because they back the product with a 2-year limited warranty.

7. Bissell 1984 AirRam

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

A powerful upright, the Bissell 1984 AirRam Cordless Vacuum is a great option for anyone looking for a more traditional vacuum at a reasonable price point. Bissell has a been a leading name in the industry since 1876—over 140 years! With that much staying power in the industry, it’s a safe bet that if you buy a Bissell you will be buying quality. They have done a great job of keeping up with new technologies, always researching and developing their vacuums to be as convenient and consumer-minded as possible.

The AirRam is definitely a product of this consumer focused research and design. We especially love that the vacuum brings some of that commercial strength into the home. It is equipped with a professional-grade, 22V Lithium Ion battery. The strong battery runs for 30 minutes per charge and provides fade-free suction across varying surfaces, including carpets, hard floors, and area rugs. The suctions is sufficiently powerful to rid of aggravating pet hair. And as with all of our cordless vacuums, the AirRam is powered by battery instead of power cord, which increases maneuverability. Power indicator lights located on the battery tell you when it’s running out of juice, and you can remove and charge the battery wherever is most convenient for you.

Although the battery is commercial quality, the AirRam was definitely designed to be user friendly and convenient for use within the home. The large on/off foot pedal makes for very easy functionality. At 11.8 x 9.9 x 44 inches and only 7.8 pounds, this upright provides the compact features that you normally would only get with a stick vacuum. Its handle is fully collapsible, which makes for easy storage. This same handle also lays perfectly flat, allowing you to vacuum under furniture, beds, and other hard-to-reach places easily. And its swivel steering makes navigating around furniture easily without scratching any of it up. We especially love Bissell’s unique feature in its power foot features of bright, wide-range LED lights that illuminate dirt on the floor, making it easy to know where to pass next.

As noted above, the AirRam is great on all surfaces, from carpet to area rugs to bare floors for both vacuuming as well as spot cleaning. It has a multi-surface brush roll that doesn’t need to be turned on or off depending on the floor. It was designed specifically for seamless transitions between flooring types. And you don’t need to worry about those bristles ruining your hardwoods, because they are made from tested scratch-free materials. In addition, the vacuum has “Suction Sweep Technology” that increases the cleaning efficiency at the edges of the vacuum. And when you’re done cleaning, the removable dirt bin has a built-in “Easy Empty Slider” that actually pushes out the dirt and debris, keeping it completely mess-free for you.

Bissell backs the AirRam with a 2-year limited warranty. Keep in mind, depending on where you purchase this vacuum, you may have the option to purchase an additional warranty.

Unlike our editor’s choice, the AirRam does not come with a built-in handheld cordless vacuum. If you are a fan of Bissell and would like to get a coordinating hand vacuum, you may want to consider the Bissell 1985 Multi Cordless Hand Vacuum. It’s powerful and lightweight, which is a great combo for any hand vacuum. It was designed specifically for versatile cleaning in even the hardest to reach places. And it is equipped with the same lithium ion battery that the AirRam functions on.

8. Hoover Air Lift 20V BH51120PC

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

As you may have noticed, this is the second Hoover to make our list. And for good reason, based on both the brand and the product itself. Hoover has been a leading name in the industry for over 100 years due to their high quality and technologically advanced products. American-made, they began by marketing the first ever upright vacuum. They also established a global presence and became so popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland that the “Hoover” brand name actually became synonymous with “vacuum cleaner”. All of that to say, it’s very hard to go wrong with the tried and tested Hoover products. We previously reviewed their stick vacuum, the Linx and now turn to their upright model.

Although on the higher range in terms of price, The Hoover Air Lift has the power and the features to match its cost. It also has the longest run time per charge of any of the machines in our cordless vacuum reviews list. Powered by Lithium Life Battery Technology—which includes two extended runtime batteries, the Air Lift provides an average of 50 minutes of fade-free suction on both carpets and hard floors per charge. These rechargeable batteries power Hoover’s exclusive “WindTunnel 3” technology. Without getting into the technical specifics, the mechanical brushroll works in such a way to create three channels of suction, which has the power to lift and remove both surface debris and deep down embedded dirt. The vacuum also offers “Boost Mode”, which provides extra power when you might need it for the toughest messes.

The Air Lift functions equally well on varying surfaces, from carpet to area rugs to bare floors. It is equipped with a multi-floor electronic brushroll that instantly switches from carpet to hard floors with the touch of a button. The brushroll has extra soft bristles to ensure that your hard floors aren’t scratched up. And because the Air Lift is bagless, there is no need to worry about replacing bags or diminished efficiency due to a full bag. Simply empty the dustbin after cleaning.

Where the Air Lift really excels is in its ability to provide cleaning in every possible space. With its removable wand and tools, it allows for an impressive 8-foot cleaning reach. The vacuum also comes with a 2-in-1 dusting and crevice tool to clean crevices, vents, and furniture surfaces. At 10.5 x 11.2 x 44 inches and 10.7 pounds, it is the heaviest vacuum on our top ten list (albeit still quite light). But if that still seems too bulky to easily transfer on the stairs or into your car, the Air Lift has the very convenient feature of converting from a full-size, upright vacuum to a lift canister for mobile cleaning. While it doesn’t have a built-in handheld (you may want to consider the Hoover Powered Hand Tool if you need one and like Hoover), you actually are able to bring full-power vacuuming with you anywhere.

Included with purchase of the Air Lift are 2 extended runtime Lithium Life batteries, a Lithium Life charger, a reusable filter, and the previously mentioned 2-in-1 dusting and crevice tool. Hoover provides an impressive 5-year battery and product limited warranty; more often than not, you can choose to add an additional warranty above and beyond the one included at the time of purchase.

9. Eufy HomeVac Lightweight 2 in 1

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

If you’re committed to a tighter budget, but need more vacuum than a stick model can provide, the Eufy HomeVac Lightweight Cordless Upright is a great option. Eufy is a subsidiary of Anker, which is a brand known for its innovative electronics for life on the go. Eufy combines this hi-tech heritage with their heart for all things home, and create products that make the home happier for everyone who lives there. Their products have smart technology and innovative designs; and the HomeVac is no exception!

When designing and developing the HomeVac, Eufy was focused on one main thing: efficiency. Their goal was for their customers to be able to clean their house in just one pass, which would ultimately save them both time and energy (their own and the environment’s). We found that they accomplished this goal tremendously well with their powerful Cyclonic System and electric rolling brush. The two work together and result in double the suction power, which allows the user to to clean messes in one pass. Not only will you be able to clean your house more quickly, but the HomeVac’s incredible battery lasts longer than any other vacuum on our list. The large 2200 mAh Li-ion battery will run for 50 minutes of vacuuming per charge.

All vacuums help home air quality by reducing the dust and other particles from the environment, which accumulates in carpets and on hard flooring. The HomeVac takes this a step further and actually has double cleaning action—on the surface that you’re vacuuming and the surrounding air. The vacuum comes outfitted with a HEPA-style filter, which traps allergens—dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander, and therefore prevents them from being released into the air. And it does so quite effectively with its three-stage system: first air passes through the dust holder, where more of the dust will get trapped; then the pre-filter; and finally the HEPA style filter. And the result? Clean surfaces and clean air. Double action cleaning with minimal effort and less appliances.

Eufy considered other conveniences that their customers would be interested in. This includes compactness for easy storage and minimal weight for easy transfer. At 10.3 x 8.7 x 43 inches, the HomeVac is effectively a dust buster wrapped in a very slim package. It stands upright on its own and slips easily into small closet spaces. Eufy also includes a wall mount and mounting accessories, in case that’s how you’d prefer to store your vacuum. And at a featherlight 5.8 pounds, the vacuum can be carried effortlessly around the house or up the stairs—wherever the mess may be. With its maneuverable swivel head, the HomeVac pivots around table legs and slides under furniture effortlessly, without nicking up any of your furniture. Finally, although the unit is very compact in nature, it still comes equipped with a large 0.9L dust holder, which detaches quickly and easily for emptying. That means less emptying for you, and being able to do so without any of the debris falling back on your newly cleaned floor.

As with all their products, Eufy believes in the HomeVac and back it with a 15-month “worry-free” warranty. Should you have any issues during that period, they provide friendly, easy-to-reach support. Depending on where you purchase your new vacuum, you might have the option to purchase an additional warranty that goes above and beyond the one included by Eufy.

10. Dyson V8 Absolute

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Although a relatively newer company—founded in 1978, Dyson has always been on the cutting edge of technology. The company began because James Dyson was frustrated with his own vacuum cleaner’s diminishing performance. He was also an engineer who had recently built a cyclone tower for his factory that separated paint from the air using centrifugal force. Determined to utilize the same technology to make vacuum cleaners more efficient, he set to work. After five years and 5,127 prototypes, he had invented the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner.

Since their start, Dyson has been a powerhouse in the vacuum industry (and they’re working and spending tirelessly to maintain that reputation). If you’re not worried about budget and less concerned about compactness, it’s hard to beat the Dyson V8 Absolute. If you’re not looking to stay within a certain budget, the V8 Absolute is a great option. Perhaps the biggest difference is that the V8 Absolute, as its name suggests, is an absolute powerhouse. Powered by the Dyson V8 motor, this machine has a great amount of suction in a cordless vacuum form factor. This powerful motor is located inside the brush bar and drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet pile to remove ground-in dirt and even suck up pet hair. For especially tough jobs, the V8 Absolute offers a very useful “Max Power Mode” with a simple slide switch. This setting provides up to 7 minutes of higher suction, functioning similarly to a shop-vac.

As with all of our top ten cordless vacuums, the V8 Absolute takes away the hassle of having to unwind, plug in, and navigate around a cord. With the higher price tag of the V8 Absolute, you also get twice as much time per charge than some of the other vacuums in Dyson’s lineup. A full charge of the lithium iron batteries (included) offers an amazing 40 minutes of uninterrupted, fade-free suction. That’s more than enough time to thoroughly clean most homes. Focused reducing as much hassle as possible, the V8 Absolute also has the amazing feature of its hygienic dirt ejector. That is a fancy way of saying that you can drive out trapped dust and debris in a single action, without actually ever touching the dirt—and thus keeping the process completely hygienic. The debris bin is larger on the V8 than other cordless vacuums, making vacuum maintenance less frequent.

Our favorite part of the V8 Absolute is the vacuum’s whole machine HEPA filtration that captures allergens and actually expels cleaner air than the air you breathe. This means that every time you clean, your output will be pure. Not only are you sucking up dirt and allergens from your carpet and other surfaces, but you are actually cleaning the air while you go. Working in conjunction with the filtration system are 15 radial cyclones, arranged across two tiers. They function in parallel to increase airflow and capture fine dust from wood floors and other hard surfaces. The end result of all of this? An as-close-to-dust-free home as you can possible imagine.

The V8 Absolute still has rather compact dimensions of 9.9 x 8.9 x 49 inches and just 5.8 pounds. As with all Dyson cord-free vacuums, the V8 Absolute converts to a handheld for quick cleanups, spot cleaning, and cleaning difficult places. This is perfect for cleaning the stairs, sofa, and in the car. Complete with purchase of the vacuum, you also get a convenient docking station for the vacuum itself as well as the other included accessories: combination tool, crevice tool, mini motorized tool, and soft dusting brush. And due to its light weight and low center of gravity, it is very easy to use the V8 to clean not only floors, but also walls and ceilings.

If have strictly hard floor surfaces or just want an extra clean feel, you may want to purchase the very reasonably priced Dyson Articulating Hard Floor Tool. This will ensure that every small piece of debris on your wood floors gets sucked up. If you plan to use the vacuum in its handheld version a lot, it may be helpful to get the Dyson Genuine Handheld Tool Kit, which will increase the functionality of the handheld. The unit also comes equipped with a soft roller cleaner head that removes fine dust and large debris from hard floors, eliminating the need for the Dyson Articulating Hard Floor Tool.

Dyson backs its vacuum with a limited 2-year warranty, but additional warranties can usually be purchased.

Best Cordless Vacuum Buyer’s Guide

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Of all the home appliances you may be considering for your home, a vacuum probably seems like the easiest to navigate. And while this might definitely be true, there are still some important things to consider before you purchase, especially since some vacuums will run you multiple hundreds of dollars. Below are the things that we found to be important and considered when researching for and writing our this cordless vacuum reviews article. We hope the information will be helpful to you as your journey on your way to cleaner floors!

Corded vs. Cordless

If you’ve already perused this article, you’ll notice that all the machines on the top ten list are cordless. For the sake of keeping the review focused, and because cordless vacuums seem to be the technological future for vacuuming, we decided to only include cordless models in our top ten list. The convenience of being cord-free can’t be denied! No unwinding, plugging, replugging in each room, and rewinding the cord. No navigating around a cord when you’re trying to clean. And with battery technology improving—providing sufficient power to have fade-free suction and long-lasting battery life, there are very few downsides to choosing cordless.

Battery

Most new models, including all of those on our best cordless vacuums list, use lithium ion batteries that both are powerful and allow for long run times. As you research which cordless vacuum is best for you and your home, consider how long it takes to charge the battery as well as the run time per charge. We include this information in our reviews.

Charging

One negative of having a cordless vacuum is that you need to make sure that your battery is charged in between uses. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself with a mess and a vacuum that’s not functional. Some vacuum batteries are charged in the vacuum itself with a cord attachment, some are removable and charged separately, and some require that the whole vacuum be placed on a charging dock. If you have a preference for how and where the battery is charged, be sure to look for those details.

Vacuum Type

When choosing which type of vacuum you want, the things to consider are: dimensions/storage and power/functionality.

Upright

Upright vacuum cleaners are probably the most popular and purchased version of a vacuum; they’re also probably what comes to mind when you think “vacuum”. The reason that they are so popular is because they are the most powerful and therefore most efficient for cleaning your home. They are generally simple to operate and user-friendly, functional on both carpet and bare floors. They also tend to be a bit bulkier, which makes storage a bit of an issue for those living in tighter quarters.

Canister

Canister vacuums are more mid-sized—smaller than the traditional upright but a bit bulkier than stick vacuums (explained below). Why many people elect for a canister vacuum is that they have nearly as much, if not as much power as uprights, but they have a more slender frame making for easier transport and storage. Their general makeup is a separate canister attached to a long wand that works well on both carpets and floors. cleaners are a happy medium between the upright model and the stick model. Canister vacuum cleaners are generally the most expensive type of vacuum due to their newer technology and multi-functionality.

Stick

Stick vacuums were very aptly named, as their design is basically that of a stick with a handle and a vacuum head. People choose them for their easily stored, ultra compact design and their ability to clean narrow and hard to reach places. They are, however, generally much weaker than upright and canister vacuums. New technology is combatting that stereotype, and we found a great deal of sufficiently powerful stick vacuums on our top ten cordless vacuum reviews. They are especially effective on hardwood floors, area rugs, and light carpeting.

Handheld

While not the best option for cleaning your whole, carpeted house (as it would take hours), handheld vacuums are perfect for small, quick messes or hard-to-reach areas. They’re especially valuable in a pinch, on the go, and/or in tight quarters like your car. You will find handheld vacuums on the market ranging in design, functionality, and price point.

2-in-1

Who doesn’t love a twofer? Extreme value comes in purchasing a vacuum that functions in more than one way. One of those ways comes in the form of attachments, which we’ll get into more below. Another is when the vacuum actually converts from one form to another. Half of the vacuums featured in our cordless vacuum reviews list are two-in-one. They function as a stick or upright and convert, with the touch of a button, to a handheld or canister vacuum. We highly recommend purchasing a unit that offers this benefit!

Attachments

There is an endless list of attachments that might come with various vacuums. Below we include a few of the most popular, that you may want with your vacuum purchase. Or, if you find the vacuum that you absolutely love, there may be an option to purchase one or more of these accessories separately. Just be sure that it is compatible with your particular vacuum.

Powered brush

Called different things by different manufacturers (e.g., Bissel’s TurboBrush, Shark’s Multi-tool), this attachment has an independent motor that powers a smaller brushrool. They suggest that this motorized brush head agitates the dirt more, allowing for a deeper clean. It has a smaller size, which allows it to reach in tighter spots. However, it usually has fewer bristles; and, if so, so it shouldn’t be used as the regular brushroll.

Hard Floor tool

This attachment is designed specifically for use on hard, bare floors. It is wide and flat in shape, with short bristles that aid in sweeping up dirt and debris. What makes it perfectly suited for hard flooring is its wheels that allow it to have easy motion along the floor. This attachment can sometimes be found with a small scalloped edge to be used to clean areas around seams. They’re great for dry messes on any bare floor: tiles, hardwood, laminate, concrete, linoleum, etc.

Vacuum brush

Designed specifically for fabrics, this attachment is great on the sofa, drapes, and even carpets. It has a wide design with long, thin bristles. The bristles work to loosen any dirt, dust, or even hair that has embedded into the fabric. We love this attachment to dust curtains or to get pet hair off of furniture.

Upholstery brush

Similar to the vacuum brush, the upholstery brush is even better suited for carpets. It is equipped with longer, more brittle bristles that really work the embedded dirt and debris out of carpet fibers. It is necessary for shampooing surfaces, as it will force the soap and cleaners into the furniture and carpets. The tough bristles will remove dirt, odor, and stains.

Crevice tool

The crevice tool is a hose attachment with a narrowed end, allowing it to clean corners, tight areas like between sofa cushions, and along baseboards. This tool is focused on spots that the standard vacuum cleaner would miss on its pass.

Pet tool

This tool is an essential for anyone with pets, hence its name. You can actually groom your dog or cat with this accessory and simultaneously gather all the hair and fur that would have ended up on your floor, furniture, and clothes.

Noise

If you have sensitive ears in your home, noise might play a role in your vacuum choice. To look for a quiet cordless vacuum, make sure you’re choosing one with a powerful motor. Powerful motors are typically more efficient, which lets them  operate more quietly.

A vacuum is typically marketed as quiet if it’s below 80 decibels, but you can find cordless vacuums as quiet as 70 decibels. To truly confirm noise levels, it’s best to review the manufacturer’s spec sheet. You can usually find spec info on their website in the product description.

Bagged vs. Bagless

This is truly a preferential question. I have known an equal amount of people with strong opinions towards bagged and towards bagless vacuums. There are pros and cons to each, so consider them and decide which works better for your home and lifestyle.

Bagged-type vacuums tend to hold more dirt and keep it more contained. When you replace the bag, the dirt and debris stays pretty well within the bag, releasing less dust into the air. Generally, an indicator on the vacuum will tell you when the bag. The downside is that you have to purchase new bags and have them on hand, or else your full-bagged vacuum will be rendered useless.

Bagless vacuums are generally more economical in that you won’t have to purchase any replacement bags. However, they do utilize filters that need to be replaced or cleaned periodically. These filters may be a positive, however, in that they actually filter the air as you vacuum. The main reason that people choose against bagless models is not wanting to deal with the dust and potential mess of emptying full bins. And this may be a real concern if you have asthma or allergies. However, most newer models have one-button, bottom release canisters that make emptying very hygienic. And because bagless seems to be the way of the future, all of our cordless vacuums have a bagless design.

Warranty

The minimum warranty you should find with a good vacuum is a 1-year limited warranty. Although we’ve seen the warranty go as high as 5 years. Also keep in mind that depending on where you purchase your vacuum, you can purchase an additional warranty that goes above and beyond the standard warranty.

FAQ

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

Are Cordless Vacuums Worth It?

Overall, we think it’s worth having a quick and fast way to keep your home fresh between your deep-clean days.

Firstly, they’re great for small everyday messes like crumbs on the couch, pet hair, or even small kitchen spills. They’re usually lightweight and compact, making them the preferred choice for tiny homes, apartments, or other places where space is at a premium.

Removing the cord also removes a potential trip hazard, which can put your mind at ease while you’re cleaning the stairs. It can also help you clean difficult spots like the inside of your car. Finally, they’re usually bagless, which gives you one less chore to maintain and keeps your vacuum ready to use.

They might not replace everything about your standard vacuum cleaner, but it’s a nice tool to have on hand.

How Long Do Cordless Vacuums Last On Battery Power?

Cordless vacuums typically only last around 15 to 45 minutes on a full charge. This is usually enough time to tackle small targeted messes, like pet hair, cars, stairs, under the kitchen table, and more. If you have a big home, you might want to keep your regular corded vacuum around for longer and deeper cleaning.

How Long Do Cordless Vacuums Last?

You should look for a cordless vacuum cleaner that has a warranty of anywhere from one to five years. Depending on the make and model, this is usually enough time to get your money’s worth.

How Long Does it Take for Cordless Vacuums to Charge?

Charge times will vary depending on the make and model – but you can expect anywhere from one hour, three-four hours, or even 12+ hours for a full charge. If keeping your vacuum charged is a concern, look for one that has a shorter charge time. This information is usually in the product description.

Is Number of Volts or Power Important?

The number of volts relates to the battery inside the cordless vacuum and therefore doesn’t directly relate to how powerful the vacuum is. However, higher power motors usually require more volts, which would be described in watts. Long story short, you can use watts to compare a vacuum’s power.

What’s the Difference between a Cordless Vacuum and a Handheld One?

Cordless vacuums might be able to be handheld, but not all handheld vacuums are cordless. However, both are usually compact, lightweight, and great for cleaning difficult spots.

Cordless Vacuums: A cordless vacuum is one that operates on battery power. Although you plug them in to charge them, most can’t be used while plugged in.

Handheld Vacuums: In contrast, Handheld vacuums are vacuums that are designed to be carried in one hand, as opposed to rolled around or carried on your back. They may or may not be corded.

Cordless vacuums can come in a wide range of designs. For example, a cordless vacuum may be able to convert from a handheld vacuum to a stick vacuum by attaching it to a base. Handheld vacuums may be corded, and they usually don’t have convertible design options that let you roll them around.

    Thank you. Very helpful information.
I’m in the market for new cordless vacuum and have a tight budget.

Bought an Electrolux Ergo Rapido a couple years ago at Costco. Sale price was $199 and I liked the price, compact size, charging stand and detachable dustbuster. Everything good at first, though mine didn’t have great suction and not very wide so you have to vacuum more. Don’t have pets, but somehow lots of people hair got wound around the tiny roller making it harder to push and affected cleaning efficiency. Roller release is small and hard to find because it is the same color even though it’s on the bottom. Only way to remove hair was to use scissors and pull by hand. Gets tedious. Washed filter in mild soapy water and air dried so plus for that but dust cup isn’t very big so you’ll be emptying more often depending on the amount of cleaning you do. Most disappointing was that in less than a year the battery held less and less of a charge and my vacuum got weaker and weaker. Electrolux support not helpful.

Thanks for the insight, we haven’t heard of similar issues with the Tineco.

I am in the market for a bagless, cordless vac that has a very long wand. The brand mentioned above with the 8-foot wand sounds encouraging. I hate bags, and don’t mind emptying a dust cup or bin, as long as it’s easy to detach and reattach when emptied. I’m big on user friendly. The one drawback from all of the brands listed in this article is that not one of them mentions being able to attach additional separate extension tubes to the wand to reach into high vaulted ceilings without getting up on a stepladder or step-stool, which can be dangerous for someone with occasional bouts of vertigo. I really wish they would put out a cordless, bagless brand with a wand that will accommodate separate, interlocking and detachable extension tubes for as much length as is needed. While the 8 foot wand is good start, I would need to be able to extend that length further in some areas. This would be a nice added feature to any cordless, bagless vacuum cleaner.

Hoover no longer makes the Air Lift 20V BH51120PC.

We called Hoover, and that model is no longer available from them, directly. It might still be found on Amazon or ebay, or maybe in some retail outlets that sell vacuum cleaners and may still have it in their inventory.

Not taken into consideration in these articles is the fact that not everyone buys things online, including from Amazon. Some of us feel safer and more comfortable being able to go into a brick-and-mortar store and seeing and feeling the product first hand, and having it demonstrated in our presence.

I noticed at the top of this article that it was updated August of 2019. I’m surprised and a little disappointed that this “updated” article would include a model that is no longer being manufactured by Hoover.

Perhaps it would be helpful to future readers if this article could be further updated to include information about where this model might be found in retail outlets, to accommodate those customers that don’t buy online. We’re part of the human race, too!

While you folks are thorough in your comparative evaluations, you still fall short. The key point of any vacuum cleaner, as was pointed out by you, is its suction. So why haven’t you rated these machines on an absolute quantitive basis as opposed to your qualitive use of meaningless wordly comparisons? I want to see one of two ways that you should compare suction perormance, either by 1) Quantity of CFM air sucked through the system, or 2) The negative suction air pressure rated in kPa that gets created at the nozzle’s vacuum point.

Clearly, manufacturers are loath to be compared on such an absolute and naked level. But that’s what real comparisons and evaluations are all about, as opposed to statements like “what an amazing vacuum system for the money” or “this is clearly one of the best available on the market” or “this one gives you the most bang for the buck”. Statements like that insult me and your other consumer constituents whom you feel need their hands held by using verbal anecdotes rather than the fair truth of absolute, scientific comparison. I really didn’t know what your verbal diatibes of suction performance comparisons meant?

Sorry about being so harsh on you, but let’s do this performance comparison business correctly and without the bias and confusion of only using words. BTW: you should have a summary table advising the consumer as to the difference between a 10 or 15 or 25 kPa rated suction pressure and what it implies about dirt size and subsequent pickup.

You see I’m an engineer by breeding, and like lawyers with their legalees, my hackles get raised by meaningless banters of feelgood comparisons using only WORDS and not numbers 🙂
