1. Husqvarna 350BT Backpack Leaf Blower  – Editor’s Choice 2019

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Founded in Sweden in 1689, Husqvarna is one of the world’s oldest companies; their amount of experience designing and manufacturing outdoor tools is on full display with the 350BT. Though there are numerous factors to take into account when deciding on the best overall backpack leaf blower, such as durability, size, weight, air speed, warranty, and price, the Husqvarna 350BT meets or exceeds expectations in every category, making for an extremely well-rounded, well-built unit. Reviews for this unit are numerous and positive, with the 350BT being one of, if not the most well-regarded leaf blowers available for purchase largely due to its build quality and reliability.

While some blowers are only meant for the average homeowner, the 350BT can be used in both commercial and residential applications. With its X-Torq engine, which we highlight further in the Pros section below, high volume tank (42.27 fl. oz.), and slew of other features like cruise control, ergonomic handles and controls, and a function for quicker starts, this unit offers a laundry list of reasons coupled with its caliber that make it a go-to choice for those looking for the best the market has to offer, and all at a reasonable price point.

The Bottom Line

2. Husqvarna 150BT Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

As we mentioned in the above backpack leaf blower review, Husqvarna is one of the oldest companies on planet Earth, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that their backpack leaf blowers top our list, due to the ridiculous amount of experience they have making hand and power tools. At first glance, the 150BT and the 350BT above look almost like the same backpack blower; while they have their similarities, there are also some big differences.

The two blowers are similar in a number of ways, such as weight, engine, warranty, power output, and tank size. One of the biggest ways they differ, however, is that the 350BT has an air speed of 180 MPH, while the 150BT comes in at 250 MPH. While the 150BT tops the 350BT in air speed, the 350BT wins out in pretty much every other category where the two don’t match up in specs. The 350BT has a number of features not found in its cheaper counterpart, such as adjustable and ergonomic handles, LowVib, and cruise control. That being said, this unit still ranks at number two on our list despite not having all the features of the 350BT.

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

Pros

  • Like the 350BT blower unit above, the X-Torq engine provides increased power, uses 20 percent less fuel and reduces emissions by up to 60% when compared to an average 2-stroke engine
  • Highest air speed on our list at 250 MPH
  • Harness was designed with ergonomics and ease of use in mind and includes a hip belt and wide shoulder straps
  • 2 year warranty for both parts and labor
  • High volume tank (42.27 fl. oz.) means hours of use without having to refill the tank in between
  • Easier starting due to an air purge function that pushes air out of the fuel system and carburetor

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • Even with the air purge function, some report that it can be difficult to start when it’s cold out
  • To keep it lightweight, plastic on the unit might be somewhat thin
  • A few say the trigger sometimes gets loose

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Bottom Line

The Husqvarna 150BT is strikingly similar in look to the 350BT, but differs in a few areas such as air speed, yet is also the typical younger brother in other areas where it doesn’t quite hit the mark when matched up against the 350BT.

3. Poulan Pro 967087101 Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Since 1946, Poulan Pro has been developing high performance, quality and durable outdoor tools at reasonable prices. The Poulan Pro 967087101 is a perfect example of Poulan Pro’s mission, as it’s a well-designed, long-lasting product that is good enough to be the third best overall unit on this list, but is also one of the cheaper backpack leaf blower listed here and on the market. Though it’s priced competitively, it doesn’t do so while sacrificing features or functionality, as the Poulan Pro 967087101 boasts a number of features found in more expensive competitor backpack leaf blowers.

Although you’re not buying a backpack blower based off of its aesthetics, Poulan Pro has complimented this product’s performance, quality and durability with one of the best exteriors we’ve ever seen from a leaf blower. With its sleek, matte black heavy duty frame and branded straps and tube, it’s easy to see that Poulan Pro spent a great deal of time making sure this item would not only fit the bill features-wise, but also in design and appearance. If it wasn’t competing against one of the longest standing tool brands of all time, this blower from Poulan Pro would be our number one rated.

Pros

  • Manufacturer’s warranty covers two years parts as well as two years labor
  • Variable speed throttle control provides more control than a standard blower
  • Frame is very well built and provides a durable and sturdy experience when in use
  • One of the best-looking units on our list, and our personal favorite in terms of aesthetic

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • Instructions may be somewhat difficult to understand without taking some extra time to decipher them
  • As it’s gas-powered, a few users have stated their unit is quite noisy

[/su_column][/su_row]

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Bottom Line

We really can’t speak highly enough about this unit from Poulan Pro. They’ve proved over their 71 years of existence that they know what it is the consumer expects out of an outdoor tool and seems to time and time again go above and beyond to pack a plethora of features into each product, yet bring it to market at a reasonable price-point.

[/su_note]

4. Echo PB-580T Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

One of Echo’s first products was the Knapsack Backpack Duster, which they took to market all the way back in 1950. Since then, a lot has changed in the outdoor tool market, and Echo has been a leader of the pack each step of the way. While not as well known as some of the other brands on this list, Echo has been a staple in American outdoor tools for over 60 years and has had a longstanding relationship with Home Depot since 1994. The Echo PB-580T is a perfect example of the excellence and innovation that Echo has become synonymous for in the outdoor tool world.

While it doesn’t have the cheapest price, most features, or some other product specific trait, the PB-580T does have an industry-leading warranty, at 5 years consumer and 2 years commercial. What makes this particular warranty special other than the fact that it’s a ridiculous 5 years for the consumer side is the 2 year commercial aspect of it, as most blowers have a stipulation that make the entire warranty only valid for consumer use. Echo stands behind it’s products in a way that’s anything but the norm, and it’s a testament to the quality of goods they bring to market year after year.

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

Pros

  • The 5 year consumer warranty is the longest warranty of any backpack leaf blower on our list
  • While some warranties are void if the unit is used commercially, Echo also provides a 2 year commercial warranty with this unit
  • 58.2cc engine is strong enough to be used in both residential and commercial environments
  • Extra padding on the backrest and shoulder straps allows the unit to sit comfortably on the user and provide ease of use over the longterm
  • A back pad with venting allows air to circulate around the wearer to give he or she some shelter from the heat in summer months
  • A leaf guard around the fan helps to keep leaves and other debris out of the intake area

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • Although it’s listed at 70 dB(A), a few users report that this unit is rather loud and recommend ear protection when using it
  • This unit is one of the more expensive backpack leaf blowers on our list

[/su_column][/su_row]

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Bottom Line

The Echo PB-580T is a great option for those looking for a high quality blower from a respected brand and an industry-leading warranty for both consumer and commercial use. Although it’s at a higher price-point, this blower is solid and won’t disappoint when tasked with keeping your yard or someone else’s clean and tidy.

5. Husqvarna 130BT Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

No, your eyes are not deceiving you; this is indeed the third backpack leaf blower on our list from Husqvarna. As we’ve already stated twice above, Husqvarna has hundreds of years of experience with the design and manufacturing of tools and are a staple in the industry. While we mention the 150BT being the metaphorical younger brother of the 350BT, the 130BT is the younger brother of both blowers as it’s  lighter, and a little less powerful than its Husqvarna counterparts.

Since we’ve already talked extensively about the well-rounded and well-built products that Husqvarna seems to consistently churn out time and time again, we’ll zero on a few things that make the 130BT unique in comparison to the other units on our list. The 130BT is one of the cheaper units on our list and is great if you’re looking for a lightweight and nimble unit, as it’s the lightest on our list and one of the lightest in the backpack leaf blower market as a whole.

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

Pros

  • As with the other two Husqvarna units listed above, the X-Torq engine provides increased power, reduced emission and better fuel economy than the average 2-stroke engine
  • Harness and tube mounted controls were designed with an ergonomic intent and make the unit easier to maneuver over long periods of time
  • This is the lightest backpack leaf blower on our list, coming in at only 14.7 pounds, which is extremely lightweight
  • 2 year warranty for both parts and labor
  • One of the cheaper units on our list, yet one of the better-ranked blowers
  • Includes a soft-grip handle that’s adjustable and easily reachable controls

[/su_column][su_column size=”1/2″]

Cons

  • With a 30cc engine, this is one of the weakest backpack leaf blowers on our list
  • Wasn’t designed to be used in any sort of commercial application

[/su_column][/su_row]

[/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Bottom Line

The third product in our list from Husqvarna, the 130BT makes a name for itself due to its reasonable price as well as the fact that it’s the lightest unit on our list and almost half the weight as the heaviest unit listed. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the 350BT, it’s a great option for those who want to carry around the least amount of weight possible.

[/su_note]

6. GreenWorks BPB80L2510 Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

You may not have heard of GreenWorks before, so we’ll give you a quick introduction. What makes GreenWorks as an outdoor tool company unique is that every product they offer is battery powered. Their focus as a company is to completely remove gas, emissions, and maintenance from the lives of those who use their tools. What’s more, their batteries can be interchanged between products, so long as the products themselves have the same voltage requirements. The GreenWorks BPB80L2510 is the first of three electric backpack leaf blower’s on our list, and in our opinion is the best of the three.

As we’ve already stated, this particular backpack blower is unique in that it’s powered by electricity rather than gasoline; consider this unit the Tesla of leaf blowers (some interesting digest: Yale is currently replacing it’s gas powered equipment with electric). While we list two other electric blowers, this particular unit from GreenWorks is the most powerful, requiring an 80 volt battery and producing an air speed of 145 MPH. Two other points that make it the best electric leaf blower on our list are it’s 4 year tool and 2 year battery warranty, as well as it’s weight. At 15 pounds, the GreenWorks BPB80L2510 backpack leaf blower is the second lightest unit on our list, only behind Husqvarna’s 130BT.

7. Troy-Bilt TB4BP EC Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

For the last 80 years, Troy-Bilt has produced outdoor tools with the intent of making the American dream a reality. While they may not be as well known as some of the household brands on our list, they nevertheless have shaped the American landscape (no pun intended) in a number of ways since their inception and continue to produce tools and products used by thousands of Americans around the country. The Troy-Bilt TB4BP EC Backpack Leaf Blower is a solid piece of equipment with a number of favorable reviews.

While the TB4BP EC doesn’t have any particular features that makes it stand out from the rest of the pack, what it lacks in uniqueness it makes up for in consistency. You’ll find this blower contains a number of high-end features usually found in much more expensive backpack blowers, such as cruise control, variable throttle, and airflow to keep the wearer cool. Not to mention, this Troy-Bilt backpack blower is on the lower end of the price scale, being one of the cheaper units on the market. Troy-Bilt is the epitome of American heritage and this backpack blower is the perfect example of what the brand stands for.

8. DEWALT DCBL590B Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

While some of the other brands of leaf blowers on this list need a bit of an introduction, DEWALT is arguably one of the most recognized brands of power tools in America and has been producing and innovating tools since 1924. DEWALT has made a name for itself in both the consumer and commercial market and the DCBL590B backpack leaf blower is another example of what it looks like when a company continues to pursue excellence and reinvent itself. This blower from DEWALT is the second of three electric blowers, and offers a number of interesting features.

The DCBL590B from DEWALT is the quietest backpack leaf blower on our list, at 63 dB(A). This is particularly important if you happen to live nearby others and would rather respect their space by not having an obnoxious gas-powered piece of equipment ruining their weekend. Adding to this, using a loud blower for years without the proper ear-protection could be damaging to the wearer; with a blower that doesn’t produce as many decibels, you won’t need to worry as much about hurting your ears. Like the GreenWorks blower above, the batteries from this unit can be used on other DEWALT MAX products with the same voltage.

  • Two battery wells, with the ability to select which battery you want to draw power from
  • As this item is part of the 40v MAX system of tools, batteries from other DEWALT MAX products can be used with this unit

Cons

  • The battery is not included with the purchase of this unit, and must be purchased in addition, or with a different package

The Bottom Line

The DEWALT DCBL590B backpack leaf blower is an excellent option if you’re in the market for an electric blower with a number of features at a reasonable price point. 9. Makita EB7650TH Backpack Leaf Blower

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

The Rundown

Head down to any hardware store in your area and you’re bound to see a number of power tools from Makita. For over 100 years, Makita has been a staple in the tool industry, selling, repairing, and engineering world class products. As a testament to the quality of goods Makita produces, it should be known that they are also a trusted manufacture in the defense and aerospace industry. Of backpack leaf blowers, the Makita EB7650TH is a juggernaut among juggernauts. This particular unit tops the other units listed in a number of areas, including weight, unfortunately.

For starters, the EB7650TH boasts the largest engine on our list, at 75.6cc. With a large engine, a large gas tank is expected; Makita has outfitted this unit with a 64 ounce tank, meaning it also boasts the largest tank size on our list. Because of its engine and tank size, this Makita Backpack Leaf Blower is the best commercial unit on our list, although it can definitely be used in residential applications as well. As we stated briefly in the first paragraph, this unit is also one of the more expensive and heaviest unit on our list.

The Rundown

Although the last-ranked product on our list, the EGO LB6002 is a great backpack leaf blower and the third out of three electric blowers that made our top 10. EGO has been around for 20 years and is focused on bringing to market electric power equipment with the power and performance of gas, albeit the noise and fumes. While EGO is undoubtedly making a name for itself with the innovative, electric products they produce, they have a ways to go before they become a household name like Husqvarna, DEWALT or Makita. Nevertheless, the LB6002 is an great product that showcases EGO’s ability to compete with the best of them.

While the EGO LB6002 backpack leaf blower is the last-ranked electric backpack leaf blower on our list, it really is a great product with a number of features and specifications that make it unique. Although the DEWALT electric blower above takes top honors for quietest backpack blower, the LB6002 is an extremely close second, coming in only 1 decibel above the DCBL590B. Adding to this, the LB6002 ties the Echo PB-580T in the warranty provided, as it offers 5 years of manufacturer guarantee.

Best Backpack Leaf Blower Reviews Buyer’s Guide

[su_note note_color=”#ffffff” text_color=”#000″]

While we’ve done our best above to help you zero in on which backpack leaf blower would be best for your specific needs, this buyer’s guide is intended to help you further decide which features and specifications are must-haves.

Power Type

When it comes to what it is that makes a backpack leaf blower function, you have two options: gasoline or electricity. While gasoline has been the power type for the vast majority of backpack blowers since they were invented, electric backpack blowers have started to become more popular as brands have figured out how to make electric blowers that can compete with their gasoline counterparts on power and duration of time before needing to be charged.

Weight

Because backpack blowers need to be physically held up by the wearer, the weight of the product is of utmost importance, especially if it’s hot out and/or you have a large area of ground to cover. The heaviest unit on our list,  the Makita EB7650TH, comes in at a fairly substantial 28.66 pounds, while the lightest unit listed, the, Husqvarna 130BT is a mere 14.7 pounds. Keep in mind, however, that the Makita unit is meant for commercial use and is very powerful, while the Husqvarna unit should really only be used in residential applications. While these units are on each end of the spectrum, there are a number of units listed in the middle of the pack in terms of weight.

Warranty

With a pricier product like a backpack leaf blower, it’s important to have a warranty in case something happens to it over time. Additionally, it’s pretty clear that your backpack blower will probably be taking a pretty good beating over time between the elements and your garage, and it provides peace of mind knowing you have some sort of protection for at least a couple of years if something goes wrong.

Tank/Battery Size

If you’re looking at a gasoline-powered blower, it’s important to find one with the right tank size to get the job done. Depending on how much land you’re covering, you don’t want to worry about running out of gas before you’re finished and having to make a pit stop midway through. If an electric blower is what you’re interested, the same rules apply, except you’ll be looking for a battery large enough to handle the tasks at hand. One thing to note, of course, is that the larger the tank or battery, the heavier the backpack leaf blower will be overall.

Cruise Control

For those planning on using their leaf blower for a long period of time, having a cruise control feature will make your life heck of a lot easier. Like driving long distances in your car, cruise control can assist in maintaining a speed of your choosing so you don’t have to constantly be on the throttle. Having the ability to set a speed of air flow means much less strain on the user and really makes the whole process a lot less strenuous.

Decibels

Noisy things can be quite frustrating and downright dangerous. When it comes to backpack leaf blowers, it seems that everyone has an experience of being woken up early in the morning by a loud leaf blower. If you live in a more remote location, having a quiet backpack leaf blower isn’t the most important thing in the world, other than of course protecting your ears. If you do decide on purchasing a louder backpack blower, be sure to use ear protection whenever using it. However, if you can to use your backpack blower in an areas where others are always around, look for a blower with less than 65 decibels.

Conclusion

Finding the best backpack leaf blower for your specific needs can be a daunting task, but also a rewarding one when you finally make a decision. There are a number of fantastic blowers on the market, 10 of the top ones being listed in this article, and researching the different options will take time. With a focus on the items listed in the buyer’s guide and through out the article as a whole, finding the one that will serve you best should be closer than ever. We hope this post has proven helpful for you in zeroing in on the unit that will fit the bill for the tasks that lie ahead.

Your thought process is faulty as the echo and the Husky are the exact same price $300.00 US. with that in mind, Performance wise, their pretty equal (husky being a little more noisy, but not outrageous and the difference in CFM (the true test in blowers) is real close. Customer service and warranty is where the Echo shines. It’s 5 yr home and 2yr Commercial (only one that does warranty commercial at this price range) are unmatched at this level and the fact that they are made in the US (Indiana) and Home depot handles warranty work, and every site I’ve gone to says that the worst thing about the Huskies IS the Customer service (that’s what led me to buy the Echo over the husky
