Launched earlier this year, Allswell is a new digital brand that offers two premium mattress styles in four different sizes as well as (at the time of writing) four different bedding styles. With it’s unique approach to first choosing a mattress that fits your needs and then deciding between bedding that’s been curated by renowned interior decorators, Allswell is a one-stop shop to getting the night’s sleep you deserve while also leaving your bedroom looking like it was designed by your own personal interior decorator.
Upon arriving to allswellhome.com, you’ll be guided to get started selecting the type of mattress you prefer—‘The Softer One’, or ‘The Firmer One’. While both options are 12 inches in height and contain built-in plush toppers, specially woven fabric to keep users cool and are made with natural ingredients, the softer version is made entirely of memory foam, while the firmer offers a mix of memory foam and individually wrapped coils. We were lucky enough to try out one of Allswell’s mattresses—we opted for ‘The Firmer One’—and have detailed our experience in the below paragraphs. Regardless of the type of mattress chosen, Allswell stands behind both options in the form of a 10-year limited warranty. While this warranty is somewhat standard in the mattress industry, it shows that Allswell believes in their product and is willing to stand behind it over the long-term. Adding to this, Allswell offers a 100-night trial period for each mattress purchased, meaning 100 days to ensure that the mattress is a good fit—the mattress can be easily returned during this period if you’re not happy with your purchase.
Once your desired mattress is chosen, you’re then guided to choose a bedding to complement your mattress and the rest of your bedroom. While anything on Allswell’s website can be purchased a la carte, the unique option to purchase a style of bedding that’s been curated by experienced interior decorators and also comes complete with a lightweight throw, a coverlet top layer, and mattress cover, is an innovative offering that immediately puts Allswell above the competition.
As was stated above, my wife and I have been fortunate enough to personally try out an Allswell mattress. After eagerly anticipating it’s arrival, our new mattress arrived at our front door in an Allswell-branded box. Upon opening the box, the mattress was wrapped in two layers of plastic, compressed, and tightly rolled up that not only protected the mattress from dirt but also kept it compressed and rolled up during storage and transit.
While the mattress is rather heavy and took the both of us to carry it upstairs to our bedroom, the process from start to finish was a rather seamless one, with the included directions guiding the way. Keep in mind, however, that Allswell offers white glove delivery, which includes in-room assembly and clean up ($99) as well as mattress removal (free if you opt for waiving the 100-day trial or an additional $50 if you’d prefer to keep it) if you’d rather than not deal doing the work yourself. If you do, Allswell provides a small, circular tool with a blade on it to assist in cutting through the layers of plastic once the mattress was removed from its box and situated in the location of its new resting spot, which, in our case is a box spring. As each of the two layers were cut through (the circular tool had a guard on it to protect against cutting the mattress itself in the process), the mattress began to quickly expand (I’d say it only took about 10 minutes to fully expand). After all was said and done and we cleared away the now empty box and thick, protective plastic, a new 12-inch thick mattress was situated in the center of our bedroom.
Edge Testing and Quality of Sleep
As was stated in the second paragraph of this write-up, my wife and I opted for Allswell’s firmer option, aptly titled ‘The Firmer One’, which, unlike their softer version, contains a mix of individually wrapped coils and memory foam—rather than just pure memory foam—to offer a medium-firm feel. We chose the firmer option as we’re both usually back sleepers and require a bit more support for a good night’s rest.
As it was still daylight when we finished setting the mattress up and I was antsy to start trying it out, I decided to start testing its edge support. While some mattresses that come in a box don’t quite hit the mark when it comes to edge support, the coil and memory foam combination of this hybrid mattress provide a level of support throughout the entire mattress that I was pleasantly surprised by. So long as I wasn’t seated on the very edge of the mattress, I felt completely supported to do anything sitting on the edge of a bed would denote, such as putting on or removing a shoe.
Edge testing out of the way and evening quickly upon us, it was time for sleep, and time to try out our new mattress. Before I get into what I personally thought of the mattress, I think it’s best to first shine a light on my wife’s opinion. My wife is someone who hates change and, if she had it her way, would still have her flip phone from 2008. Before receiving our mattress from Allswell, she was hesitant about trying it out and would have preferred to continue sleeping on our 8-year old mattress from the mattress store down the street. That being said, I woke up the next morning and, before I could even ask a question, received an earful from her about how much she liked the mattress and how comfortable last night’s sleep was. She explained how it was the perfect mix of firm and plush and how much more well-rested she felt in comparison to waking up on our old department store mattress.
Honestly, I was in complete agreeance. This mattress had provided a level of sleep I hadn’t experienced since staying at a Renaissance hotel a few years back. I no longer felt like I was sinking into my mattress and instead felt a sense of support and recoil—this mattress, literally and figuratively, had my back. Over the next few nights, my thoughts after the first night were further solidified as I’d experienced a good night’s rest night after night. What’s more, the design of the mattress makes motion transfer very minimal, meaning it’s an excellent choice for those who share a bed with someone else. The only minor gripe I have, and I’m really reaching deep for this, is that on the rare occasion that I sleep on my side, the mattress is a tad firm for my shoulder. While still completely comfortable for side-sleeping, I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least mention this.
After this experience, I can confidently say Allswell has created a beautiful, high quality mattress that ships directly to your door at a fraction of the cost of mattresses sold in a traditional brick and mortar store. My wife and I are using this mattress for the long-haul and couldn’t be happier.
